Stop to building on the Costa Brava

For the first time the Territorial Urban commission of Girona applied the resolution of the Generalitat to suspend processing of urban proposals for non urbanisable land and urbanisable land that is not part of the new coastal general plan.

With this measure, The Generalitat intends that town halls refrain from rezoning land while the "Pla Director del Sistema Costaner" has not been finalised. In this plan it is proposed to restrict excessive building within 500 meters of the entire Catalan coastline. The plan will be finished in two to three months, according to Joaquim Nadal, head of the government department Territorial Politics. The provisional suspension of licenses affects 672 kilometres of coastline divided over 75 municipalities. The developers in Platja d´Aro are lucky, they have applied to build 64 new houses on a plot of land that is just 560 meters from the coast. They will therefore not be affected by the new measure. In L´Escala developers were not so lucky, the urbanism department of the town hall withdrew the license processing for a 60-house development in the Montgó sector.
