European Union, a bottomless pit…
The European Commission is planning a new tax to raise money for its own use. Under the proposals every household bill throughout the Union would have an additional line showing the contribution to the European Union, this would be a special tax for the Commission’s own use.
The Commission says this would raise awareness amongst European tax-payers of where their money is going. The Commission says that when you pay your VAT on your household bill, a small amount of this would be going direct to Brussels. So that this will not be seen as a new tax, Brussels says that it should just be a small part of the present VAT payments on house taxes and probably would not add up to more than 1% of the VAT.
